    It makes all the Difference

This morning I visited 4 retail businesses in the course of my travels. In the last 3 shops I received a friendly greeting. asked if I needed assistance and it was a pleasant experience (as far as shops go).
Unfortunately the first shop I went to was Advanced Archery, obviously the staff don't get paid enough to smile or offer assistance to customers. I only got a hello after I smiled and said hello first.

A smile makes a world of difference, it makes people feel welcome.

I managed to spend 45 mins in a branch of H & F once, before someone even noticed me. They were too busy talking with their mates about the weekend exploits.

I walk out if I'm not tended too, a simple 'be with you in a minute ' is all I need, but the ones that don't even acknowledge me can boot it. I have zero time for dickbags these days, there's far too many nice people that my time is better spent with

I'm the opposite I don't like people coming up and asking me if I'm OK must be something about me I tell them I'm OK but they just follow me round the shop like I'm a shoplifter

Yeah I'm with you there, I was more referring to when I'm waiting not browsing. Although in saying that a simple 'hi, can I help you' isn't a bad thing.

Only poor sales people greet customers with " can I help?"

Likewise. I like to be acknowledged then like to have a look around first before getting swamped.

Went into Gun City the other day (2nd time ever) and never got past the 22 counter before time to go so missed out on looking at the rest of the shop.
The other weekend into Harvey Norman to buy a bed. Wife had all the details and shown straight away an alternative

+1 Yeah, my tolerance has diminished over the years, grumpy old f….er syndrome.
Needed a full set of new tyres for the van. Walked into the local Beaurepaires just ahead of another dude. One guy in the workshop, behind desk, on the phone. Totally ignored both of us just continued yapping. Didn't even acknowledge us, all he had to do was put his hand over the mouthpiece and say "I will be with you in a minute" or even a friendly wave. Stood there for around 4 minutes, walked out with other potential customer close behind. There are 4 tyre shops close by on that road, pretty much a no brainer. I know Beaurepaires are franchises but I will never step into another Beaurepaires anywhere in the future.

Re other shops - gun shops, M10, Harvey not Normal - yes my health is OK when they ask "are you ok SIR?". F..k off but have the presence of mind to sense when you may be of assistance rather than confronting me as I enter your shop. I guess they cannot help it, part of their training and for some who are paid a low base salary and then a commission on sales they need to be pushy and if they upset a few it is probably not an issue in terms of their overall success.

If I get asked the usual "can I help you?" , they get a stern "No" in reply. That fucks em cos they got no where to go with the conversation now.

Barefoot I am shocked. You went into four shops in one day. Why would you do that to yourself?
