Holy crap! There is a lot of incompetence there! Also illustrates the silliness of the law about leaving firearms un-accompanied in a vehicle.

    What a messy situation

Sounds like the boys in blue are in some deep shit but he definitely shouldn't have that loaded shotgun under the bed ( or was that contested too?)

Does sound like he s not his own best friend . The loaded shottie under the bed is not good ??
Pretty sure that could have caused an unsuitable person claim ?
The dope thing sounds like he could have got into more trouble if it was tested ...

The police certainly didn't handle it well at all.

He certainly didn't do himself any favors, loaded shot gun under bed wtf.
I never carry my firearms on my person while in transit. They stay locked in my car/ute.

The main point i got from the article is there is plenty of firearm hysteria within Ashburton/south Canterbury Police district's Keystone Coppery

By my/ reading the loaded shotgun under the bed only appeared after the first search. Sounds to me like he intentionaly set this up this up to test the cops and the law and then the cops decided to teach him a lesson. Lets hope the cops learn their lesson and pull their heads in

Should have had the rifle in a cover for a start

Maybe not a requirement but certainly causes less alarm to the public than opening carrying a rifle to the toilet ...

The guy sounds a bit off though why no gun slip? He's not endearing himself to the public by walking around like that!
With the mag in? Idiot! Treat every firearm as loaded ah?
Id be calling the cops too.
But the rest is just rubbish demote the lot! Not a sergeants ass
No wonder they have that other idiot as there top union man....is he the best of the bunch??????
