    Maketu Beach

Looking at accommodation options around Te Puke.

    Maketu Beach looks promising.

Been to Papamoa Beach once before over the Xmas holidays, and vowed never to return anywhere near the 7th gate of hell (Tauranga) - way too many boy racers, teeny boppers and drunk teens.

Any comments on Maketu Beach Hiloday Park?

@Gibo would probably have the good oil on that ebf. He has probably been terrorising that neighbourhood since he was a nipper.

Never stayed in the park myself but Maketu is a beautiful spot. Good fishing, good surfing etc.

What are your plans while there?

It's just rain Gibo, wind speeds are looking nice and mild, N and NW whole day

At least that is the benefit of having Trentham as a home range, wind elsewhere is a lot more sane and predictable.

Having said that, Gisborne last year I had on 15 moa windage @ 1000yds at some stage

Papavegas is wayyyyyyyy different now. Looks like a little mini Auckland now, the camping grounds are slowly getting turned into subdivisions and the local constabulary have a fairly decent set of tabs on the local client group.

Was living there over that time and having great fun in the local volunteer fire outfit, out on the inevitable calls to the local camping ground for a pissed/burnt out portapoo shed (ducking as the pissed idiots were trying to knock the flashing lights off the truck with anything to hand). We ended up suggesting that the boys in blue might be courteous enough to pay us a visit - then chuckled as the 5-o wandered in with the 'secured transport vehicle'. The verdict was 'well, we can't take it back empty, wander around till someone looks at you funny and chuck 'em in the back'. They left before us... Those were the days, looking back I'm amazed we never had people killed at those camps - the tents were so close together that one match would have gone through the lot in seconds...

So, regarding Maketu Beach Holiday Park.....

Whoever took the photos for their website must be the same dude that photographs McDonalds hamburgers

What a dump, maybe the 2 patched gang members near the entrance should have given it away.

Ended up driving thru to Papamoa Beach afterall.
