    Making New Zealand

    Prime TV

Sundays @ 2030. Watched the first episode which was about the history of the domestic forestry industry and how it helped start the nation economically. Fascinating the early challenges that were overcome by a combination of ingenuity and sheer bloody mindedness. Sad to see such formerly thriving towns / settlements, now abandoned.

Thoroughly recommend - next weekend's episode will cover the mining industry.

    Watched it as well.
Pa-in-law worked in most of the places named - expat from Scotland - not long after he arrived in 1950.
He has fond memories of all of them - and the people he worked with.

Certainly admire the calibre of men who engaged in that sort of work. Most Millenials wouldn't know where to start.

I come from just such a town Ryan (Te Whetu). My old man worked in forestry and timber all of his working life.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
