    My holiday snaps

Here are some snaps of a recent trip to the Canadian sub artic on polar bear photographic safari.
We were at 60 north at an old hunting camp re purposed for tourism. Fairly primitive conditions, but hot water available and fully catered with 3 meals a day. Not at all a hardship

Looks awesome, would love to do a trip like that. Only polar bears I've seen were at Quebec aquarium.

Did you test the electric fence before you went out. I would.

do they guarantee that polar bears wont go through an electric fence to get an easy meal of a tourist.i have cattle beasts that will go through a hot wire for some grass even though they are standing knee deep in grass.nice photos.

The electric fence was a Gallagher and no I didn't test it!
The guides use a variety of escalations to scare the bears off, from simply shouting, to a whistle, warning shots with blank cartridges and live rounds to ultimately lethal shots.
In the eight years they have been doing this they have never escalated beyond a blank warning shot. The bears are very curious but wary, they are apex predators and would kill and eat you with no hesitation. Earlier this year a bear killed a family near Arviat about 100km north of where we stayed so the threat is real.
This was a bucket trip list from Mrs Imaca but hell yeah I had a great time, seeing those bears from about 3m was an awesome experience.

We've been home about 6 weeks but I am still fizzing from the experience, it was that good..

Polar bear or was that a freudian slip for a polar icy steinlager etc...?

Just went onto my bucket list too. Alaska was already there, so Canada while I am up that way....

Yep, and fark it got off the ground quick and stopped in bugger all. On the approach to the camp I was looking for the landing strip, nope! A bit of bare land by the cabins was enough.
