    New Android Phone

Perhaps one or two of you younger [ or not so younger] tech minded chaps could point me in the direction of a new phone
I currently have a Motorola Mini defy that at the time had all I wanted, water proof, dust proof and could ring out.
    dunno shit about much else.
It's been really good, but I'd like another and they don't make an upgrade model with the waterproof feature. So.
Have been reading about the Sony Xperia 3 compact and the Galaxy 5 Mini
I want water proof, dust proof, ease of general use for a nearly upper middle aged gentleman, a dial/key pad that isn't made for fingers the size of a 6 yr old undernourished pigmy, and a decent camera,
With me being set up to email etc on my own without having to call Nasa.

Any thoughts on the best of the two above, cheers.

I have a work sony xperia 3 and a Samsung galaxy 4 .... neither are the mini .... they are fantastic , but they are also little computers ... I would get one , and a decent cover to protect from the knocks , ... or a galaxy 5 , its waterproof ....

    Htc.

I've had a few and not one broke. Only brought new ones to have the latest, gave up doing that about 3 years ago, and the phone still going strong, apart from battery is getting a bit old.

All easy to use, good feature and you can make them seem real simple real quick. Plus if you want, they do all the flash stuff as well. And its not a apple or that stupid windows phone system

Samsung s4 or 5 un a life proof case.
If i can operate and havnt fucked it yet it must be bloody good!
A mate has a sny and it doesnt have the same os that will run some of the more common ballistic apps.
That is only hearsay mind you.
I did have a defy and my s4 eats it for every thing eapecially the camera.
My next phone will be anotger samsung

I use an S4 active in a ballistic case off of Amazon for about a third of what you pay for an otterbox or lifeproof case. Its survived some pretty high drops on commercial construction sites off scaffs and ladders so I reccomend it.

Is that case waterproof as well?

I'm looking into the same question at the moment to replace my 3-4yr old Sony Xperia Active (equivalent of the Defy being tough waterproof etc) - leaning towards one of the Xperia Z models, either a Z3 compact or the older model Z2 or Z1 compact if I find one cheap.

I know the Galaxy S5 is waterproof too but its a design abomination and feels like a cheap piece of junk. Seriously, tinny fake plastic chrome edges?

Samsung and Sony both use the same android operating system, just with their own minor tweaks.

No, the S4 active is waterproof, or resistant.

That's pretty much my thoughts on the galaxy as well Gravelben, but that's only through reading internet reviews,
I thought I'd ask some assist from the tech guys here in case there was something special about the galaxy5 mini that I have missed, except the fact that currently the galaxy is a fair bit cheaper, well that I can find.
Unless there is a really good reason to go the Galaxy5 over the z3 in the mini/ compact format of them both , the z3 is probably the way I'll go
    Cheers all for your replies.

Iknow what ya mean as been seeming to be tinny but i put mine in a life proof case and its been bomb and waterproof as well.
Its got big buttons for fat fencer fingers and a big screen for blind buggers and runs my applied ballistics software well.
I will probably upgrade to the s5 one day but it doent have the humidity and pressure sensors that the s4 has for the ballistic software.
My wife bought an iphone which she loved until she tried my s4 so now she wants one of those!

I just bought a z3 for my late 60's mother-her first smart phone.
Trying them out in the market she found it a lot better to use than any of the compact versions and it still fits in her pocket, just!
