    OE/Traveling

    Hi all,

This year I finish up my degree at uni and I'm planning to do some traveling. I have a couple things in mind, but what I really need to do is a bit of research. I know lots of you on here are the traveling sort so I thought I'd start a thread for the sake of spinning a few yarns about your time overseas. Where did you go, what did you do, how many times did you nearly die, all the standard stuff
    Yeah nah bro

Have travelled to France, Poland and Canada...fantastic...wonderful people, the history etc etc...The only time I wanted to die was when leaving these countries...didn't want to come home!!! Just be alert...never ever put anything precious or meaningful in your luggage, keep it with you at all times...your passport, debit card, credit card, cash are the most important stuff you have...keep them close...cos without them you are up the creek without a paddle...be sure to go to your bank before leaving so they can enable your eftpos card for use overseas...I see travellers with their laptops...why they lug those things around I have no idea when there are internet cafes all over the place and really cheap; just something else you have to keep a constant eye on...never be silly with the customs people, after 9/11 they are very touchy about anything...if taking liquour say to the US or Canada put it in your luggage, you cannot take it on board with you. Travel agent will advise on this. And take the offer of travel insurance even if it is going to nudge the budget.

Krakow Poland has the death camps, Auswitz and Birkenau and a salt mine with a full size cathedral carved out 120 metres underground.
Krakow is an great city, you can shoot all types of weapons there at the range, Warsaw has one of the best/saddest/ interesting museums on the uprising. Cheap as chips to travel in Poland, beer is great along with the food, eat authentic polish food, awesome.people are great, went to a big Sunday flea market, the old shit was amazing, watches, camera, etc etc

Just spent the past 18 months travelling throughout Europe ..... heading back overseas tomorrow for another 2-3 month stint around Asia. Had planned on staying for 6-8 months but change of plans at the last minute me thinks.

Been to something like 25-30 countries..... flick me a PM with a bit more information and I'll help out where I can.

Phillip there is a lot of the world out there to see so don't bust a gut to try and see it all at once. Choose where you want to go and then immerse yourself in the countries you visit and properly experience their different cultures by not just hitting the tourist spots. A good way for a young fellah like you is to team up with a couple of others and buy a car or van and then drive yourself to wherever you want to go. I have driven myself right around Europe and North America and doing that gave a great deal of flexibility to my itinerary. The only place I had any trouble was in Slovenia with an over zealous machine gun toting individual that took exception to my being in the wrong lane at a border crossing. I have been through 48 countries and 30 of the 50 US states this way. Happy to discuss more if you bring the beer n

Put viber on your smart phone as I was talking to a mate in italy last night and both of us couldnt believe how clear it was.
All ya need is wifi and blabber and txt for as long as ya want for free.
Also handy if you have no cell reception at your house you can txt and get calls with viber and if the other person hasnt got it you can buy time for 2 c for land line and ten for mobile.
    Bloody good I reckon!
