I overheard somewhere that free grazing for journalist's or politician's pet horses in areas surrounding DOC controlled areas may be the only way of adequately publicizing the real effects of the toxins.(I like horses personally).

It reminds me of a product using Lead Acetate we used years ago for grub control--(showing my age now).

Worked really really well- sadly has/had major human health implications.

1080 is THE dollar value effective method of control that is fashionable. And the dollar/ego return to those promoting it.

Had govt. scientist brother in law-guess what??- job funding is important-not so much rocking the status quo.

DO NOT trust the DOC sales advice re safety- we trusted govt admin with DDT, lead acetate, agent orange and a lot of now banned chemicals.

Link to recent MSDS Material Safety Data Sheet: PIGOUT Feral Pig Bait
Date of Issue: 28 May 2013 Animal Control Technologies (Australia)

Best thing would be the above- while it remains dollar effective, being careful for yourself, and encouraging positive and responsible hunting, and of course getting primary products tested properly.

I would prefer the company of the team pictured above.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

This is what people resort to to get people to jump on the bandwagon of 1080
All I read after looking at the pics were rambles.........it reminds me of telemarketing.

Careful Maca49, some of the entitled ones in govt admin do look like this- -no guns and only blanks with them tho.

JT may be partly right--but message primarily is Enjoy yourself, and stay safe.

'Reliable' A sentence of yours in your opening statement caught my attention. It was this.."1080 is the dollar effective method of control that is fashionable"

Dollar effective??? We are talking about Government Departments here. 1080 drops are not pre or post poison monitored. So you don't know how many pests were there before you started and you don't know how many you kill.

Whereas a trapper is pre and post trapping monitored before he gets his cheque.

Now that is what I would call a "Dollar effective method of control. There have been many comparison studies done like the one above

    Good, thanks Scribe.

Dunno how you are going to find say 1000 or more trappers to keep ahead of DOC admin-who are perhaps more interested in their jobs/ego/lifestyle than achieving long term results- if it was long term results they would be introducing 'Judas' pests with sterile genes-which I think is technically and logistically as easy as their current methods.

And remember they have to answer to your most un-favourite politician etc.

Best idea maybe is the one I overheard-not sure the legality- though like most of no-fault accidents could be OK- and will create a tremendous public awareness.

Not sure if you have it, but there is a study floating around about uptake and long term retention of 1080 in animal fat-not a good look.

Thing we can do I thought was encourage responsible hunters, and educate them about toxin safety. JT was pretty astute-by using the sex appeal aspect will get a lot of initial attention.

And be a lot of positive fun.
