    Poison for Rabbit Control

    Hi,

We recently tried Pindone on the farm and it was not very effective. No real impact on numbers in fact.

Does anyone here know the ins and outs of becoming a (presumably licensed ?) user of 1080 for rabbit control ? What hoops must be jumped through, and what sort of limitations are there on use ?

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction

    Thanks

I went through the hoops for 1080 recently. It is not easy anymore. It is close to $1000 for training,
WorkSafe licence and compliance certification... a compliance certifier has to sign off on your training now. Then there is a fit and proper check, same as E-cat licencing. You also walk a fine line because of the politics of 1080. You have to put signs out, and you have to maintain them, with your phone number and name... Get where I'm going? I was once handed 2 buckets by parents of a guy that went around collecting pellets from a forest to protect the animals. Hopefully whoever sees your signs is as benign as that guy.

While my CSL has 1080 on it, I won't be using it. It was mainly added so that I could legally handle and possess it for proper disposal - which was part of my job until recently.

Honestly, rather get a keen shooter to help you out. I'm sure there are a few who would jump at the opportunity. Good luck.

Pindone is most effective when feed on the place overall is a little short. It can be very very effective when you get it right.

If it didn't seem to make much difference to numbers, I would suggest you may have much higher numbers than you suspect..

The most effective method is lead poisoning at high velocity just behind the ear...

Pindone is lethal to anything feeding on poisoned critters. Hawks moreporks gulls and other raptors.

Thanks for the feedback guys - yes we carry out a lot of ground shooting, but we need to make a bigger impact on the numbers.
StrikerNZ - suspect you are right - we'll do a few more rounds of Pindone and see if there is an impact
Bol Tackshin - I'll PM you for some more details.
