"Only two police officers were handling the four offenders who worked together to escape from custody in Levin.

Manawatū area commander Inspector Sarah Stewart admitted it was not "best practice" when speaking about the manhunt for the three escapees at Levin police station on Thursday.

Stewart also said it was not believed any of the offenders were wearing handcuffs at the time."

Not following best practice is a euphemism for negligence leading to predictably poor outcome.

Not a surprise, with only two officers guarding four (non-handcuffed) offenders.

I can see that sort of thing happening at a handover for transfer.

They should have borrowed the civvie public desk Sheila I met yesterday. Faaark, I cringed, the 6’4” guy behind me was pushing me forward and another retreated to the foyer. She was like pitbull on steroids. Bet those felons would have been climbing over each other in an effort to get further into the corner.

Is it something with the police in that neck of the woods?
Palmerston North is just up the road

Nothing to be fearful about.......ummm tell that to the owner of the car that just got hijacked tell that to the rest of road users, as these guys have a habit of not stopping in a police pursuit Not stopping doesn’t that mean driving way over the speed limits and dangerously

Mind you love the mug shots looks like two on the left had a dabble at tattooing mates chin on the right or maybe he though me wee whiskers aren’t showing yet so I know I’ll draw some on GOLD no way we will find you again
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

I used to mock the Mexican Police for letting El Chapo escape (OK so it was their prison) but really they "pressed an emergency lever to lift a garage door" and no handcuffs?! Maybe these guys were "voluntary" prisoners?
