Think about it like this, if you were in a train and threw a ball in the opposite direction the train was moving what would it do?

    I don't know that's why I am asking

My guess is it'll go back like if I threw a ball while standing still

The last time this sort of question came up it was about a bunch of rag-heads that wanted to learn how to fly jumbo's but wanted to skip the landing lessons...so Toby, what are you planning.

It will just drop, relative to the ground, and be going backwards relative to you.

Do air marshals sit at the front or back in airplanes?

It's all relative Toby, depends on if you look at the projectile from the perspective of the plane, or from the stationary point where it was fired.

My take is 2000fps relative to ground, 4000fps relative to plane

So it will travel forward not just fall out the barrel?
