In the extreme. It is almost inconceivable that tourists in bed in their camper anywhere in New Zealand would be shot at by some nut job outside wanting to take the bloody camper. I would bet my ball bag and all that is in it that the offender was under the influence of a drug and did not have an FAL.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Beats me, I thought our sacrifices were making NZ safer, clearly not the case? Maybe bringing back hanging would be a better idea for arseholes like this? I’m with rushy, if this was unprovoked, it’s a heinous crime for NZ.

Tragic story, but I'm not entirely surprised. In Northland, there have been quite a few high profile bashings of tourists in camper vans. Tourists may not be clued-up about areas to avoid and may be naive about the reality of NZ, but it's not a good look. We've done a few road trips and the Mrs wants to buy a camper van. I'm thinking about future hunting trips, so going along with it, but there's no way we're going to park up in some random spot overnight and hope for the best, especially with a young child onboard. A sad state of affairs.

Govt plan seems to be to get them all onto legal pot.

Not sure it's going to work well as the plenty legal alcohol has not enticed them.

This type of violence can happen anywhere at anytime, so I always have a situational awareness mindset wherever and always look for signs of pre attack indicators.

My experience inside NZ with other tourists is they see NZ as some utopian like place but actually NZ is and can be quite dangerous in many ways for tourists with the number killed or passing away in the three digits every year from all sorts of incidents, rafting, car accidents, falls, crime, hiking, parachuting, hot air balloon, etc.

The only big incident I had was in Christchurch after a rugby match. I was able to get out of a confrontation with quick thinking, a change in direction and help from the dark.

only way to stop it is to seal the border. navy patrol vessels with "shoot on sight" orders

Where there is money to be made, people will make that money one way or another.....

It was a confusion of ideas between him and one of the lions he was hunting in Kenya that had caused A. B. Spottsworth to make the obituary column. He thought the lion was dead, and the lion thought it wasn't.
