Spanners does the US of A

Mrs and I had been talking about going to US and doing Route 66 since a few drinks at Xmas
Time off for her is always an issue due to wk, not so much for me
While I was away at wk, she got notice that she was getting made redundant (yay!) and her last day was the same day my roster finished, so with 3 weeks before me getting home, we booked tickets and rental car.
I flew back into NZ Sun night, and we were back on the plane to New York Monday 4am.

Originally we had planned to fly to NY, see a few of here mates up Boston and head West to Chicago and do the Mother Road.
Plans changed a bit and we ended up heading up from NY through Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, the 'mountain rd' into Quebec, up to Quebec City, down through Montreal to Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara, Pittsburgh, Detroit and to Chicago for the start of Route 66.

Pittsburgh - GPS found the ghetto.. was pretty scary, esp given how white we are and the car being driven around - let alone the actual area.. it was doors locked, sunnies on and foot tot he floor to try and dodge the bullets. Crack dealers on every corner etc.. sure there were chalk outlines all over the place..
Managed to find a super nice family owned Italian restaurant that the old man and son were keen hunters.. so got fed and boozed there.

Detroit- Henry Ford Museum - OMG this should be on everyones bucketlist.. bugger all cars in there, but almost EVERYTHING else... I think its a 14 acre building IIRC.
ANYTHING mechanical you can think of since history of man - just WOW

Its late here and I'm off to bed - more later
In Texas at the mo - heading out to a 4000 acre ranch for some hunting over next few days.

Between Chicago and St Loius was the start of our Route 66 mission.. on the interstate its around 4.5hr.. on the old proper 66 route 9.5hrs.
Felt like it was about 3 hours..was SO cool!

The route is dotted with little restorations of gas-stations etc everywhere.. like time has stood still

Just wondering if your going to give the rental back with two bald tires or do a swap round and give it back with four bald tires?
