Rebel Sports used to have fishing stuff. They are on Colombo near South city. Closest one to Avonside would be Eastgate Warehouse but not really a fishing shop..........

Complete Angler as mentioned, Must be others but the ones I used to go to have all stopped. Mikes Fishing was great. But he wound down and changed directions a number of years ago. (Now sell aquarium supplies- still fish sort of)

I saw some fishing gear (amongst all of the other stuff and EVERYTHING else) at Toms Emporium on Riccaton road. There used to be a fishing shop near there too but no idea where they went.

How old? Any older than 11-12 you'd get him a little shiamno spin combo with a few lures as he could catch trout in Avon and around Canterbury. Younger just get him a little fishing kit he could get his head around. Completely angler are usually pretty handy.

The Warehouse is actually pretty good for terminal tackle prices. They keep changing the brand names and flogging off the old name stock dirt cheap. The new stuff just the old stuff but has a new label, which was the name the year before last. Happy to donate some with some home made sinkers.

Complete Angler is good for good fishing gear but can sell some dodgy rubbish like my waders. After only 20 years or so they fell apart.

How big is he and how is he for transport?

Wonder if he could be kidnapped for next years top of the south fishing trip with @stingray.

That'll largely determine where he can get to unless he is with someone else to fish.
