    The Squeeze, Ohakuri lake

I'd like to take my daughter there this weekend. But have no boat or kayak. Can you access this by road? I see it has a gravel road nearby.

PM if you want to keep the details discrete.

I used to go there on family picnics as a kid so it had a road in back in the fifties and sixties

Yep off SH 1 at the top of the passing lane just pass the atiamuri? Bridge heading south towards Taupo. You can buy a block of land from the development while your there! There's a camp with toilet facilities.

Shit your old, was that before the dam was there? We used to take the boat up the river to the hot water fall, don't know if you can still do that, or bathe in the cast iron bath.

Can also get to a hot spring on the thermal arm of the lake off Te Kopia road. Also vias Orakie Korako thermal tourist attraction off Tutukau road. Also into the upper whirinaki arm via Waikiti valley road.

Fond memories of duck shooting there as a kid before the pines went down and changed the flight path. Used to have a very well set up hut on a small island, wonder if it's still there?

Sir Owen Glenn owns the reserve now where there used to be a sailing club. Toilets and ramp is still there but the buildings gone. Have had the odd dog trial there too

it's a big lake and lacks sufficient shooters to keep birds moving. always difficult depending on winds and flightpaths.
pm me Ricochet if you want more details.

For the record Maca and Gapped Axe are cheeky shits. Also for the record it was before, during and after the dam was built although not being as old as Maca, I don't remember a lot of the before or during.
