    Stick insects

Have seen plenty of them this summer in the heat, - yesterday I had a green one on my caravan in the southern Kawekas and today I had a brown one on a grass stalk next to me in the northern Kawekas. Has anyone seen any different types?

I only really see them in summer, not sure why

I hope they don't grow any bigger as they give me the creeps

    Pretty cool bugs.

Saw a monster dragonfly up the hills over summer - black and yellow one, maybe 100mm long and body as fat as my finger. Biggest I've ever seen.

    Enjoyed that Tommy

As a kid I used to mark the ones around the house in Taupo, it was amazing how far they would travel and where they would turn up

Many phasmids will change their colourings like a chameleon. You possibly saw the same insect just in different settings. They will hybridise very easily I understand and also can reproduce without a male (parthenogenesis).

My aunty was a teacher in Hokitika and always had them crawling around, quite often over me. She had some cool stuff to show the kids.
