Chow brothers add Stonewood Homes to property empire | Stuff.co.nz

First thing that came to mind is the term "extra's" when a client enquires what will be on the price list I wonder

Brass poles in the middle of the bedrooms? Stage and cheesy lighting in the lounge? Pay for it in $5 notes and invoice is attached to a G String.....

In all seriousness, though. Good on them for stepping in and adding it to their portfolio. When I heard Stonewood were looking for buyer, I though no one would touch it..but for those building with them, I am glad someone has stepped up. I only hope that they manage to succeed at it.

Safe is a relative term... they wouldn't be my choice.

"Safe "to say you get a shitty house ! They where always shit and you don't change rough tradeies over night . The difference of new owners will only mean they will probably brake your fingers if you complain or not pay .

Are you actually dealing with the builders or just salesmen who talk it up and give nice optimistic estimates to blow out later?

Is that the Chch firm . does every franchisee get tarred with the same brush. I thought Franchises were about buying power not just crap houses? Depends if they've got a solid team I suppose like any business?

Just talking to the owners of a few different building firms. Because I'm looking to access my kiwisaver you need a fixed priced contract or turn key package and a subject to quite a low house/land price cap , hence looking at the franchises. I'm not interested in a bespoke build As budget simply won't allow Making alterations after the plans have been submitted is where they sting you isn't it.. I'm no guru. Never built a house. Could be a steep learning curve.. Gotta roll the dice sometimes I suppose

Just check them all out in your area.
We deal with most of the franchise home companies in our area and there is always some that are better than others.
But every area is different some big names companies ok in our area and crap in other areas.

If you want an opinion on which building firms are better/worse in an area, try asking some of the other tradesmen that work as subbies for them. When I was bricklaying I certainly found out which builders built things straight and which ones didn't.

We've had a few clients get stung by them on new builds, sometimes its things like drainage and driveway construction that cost far more than they were told and sometimes its just a really really long wait trying to get the place actually finished and code compliance etc.
