    Strange find.

Out on the farm today something in the grass caught my eye. It took my little brain a while to register what I was seeing but here it is.

    Lizzy you have gone far.

Looks like one of these: Chevron skink: Lizards: Reptiles and frogs: Native animals: Conservation
A lot bigger than DOC suggests - and very rare. Where did you find it? Might be worth letting DOC know if it's outside it's normal range (or not if it will result in an over-zealous poison drop...)

That's a very very interesting find. Definitely let your local DOC office know at least.

Assuming it's as dead as it looks, local museum or someone may want it..

Thanks @Nickoli, but after a bit of research I think what I have found is a Blue tongue lizard. It must be an escaped pet (or the progeny of) as it is far too big to be any native. Also the head is quite triangular. Couldn't get it's mouth open to check for tongue colour though It really was one of those WTF moments though.

    Is it dead?
The Universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead. -Mr Peanutbutter

Didn't know they could be kept as pets in NZ - interesting.
....and we continue to poison the shit out of anything in NZ introduced... even more interesting...
I suggest making a big paperweight out of it with epoxy resin - it will make a great story one way or another....

I would definitely refer it to doc. Blue tongues would compete with our already hard done by native reptiles. This one may have bred.
On the upside you could have a record NZ skink and either get in the record books or have a new species named after you Stinkskinkus shearerii!

Yep looks like a blue tounge to me , quite a common pet and require a heat lamp. Surprised it could survive with the cold weather we have here

Ok. Maybe it did die of cold then?
It was a long way from any other houses and I don't think it would travel very far on those little legs.
