    Sweden Trip

    Hi team,

Off to Sweden for 4-5 weeks next August for my mates wedding in Stockholm. So far looking at going to Finland and maybe St Petersburg Russia by ferry.

What are the other places I should be looking at? Not interested in GB or France. Was thinking maybe Estonia and one must do Amsterdam surely.

Anyway keen to hear from those well travelled souls

In Sweden you can only buy decent booze from government stores, Systembolaget. It's expensive. Norway, if you were thinking of travelling there is even more expensive.

Tallinn is an ~80km ferry ride from Helsinki. I thoroughly enjoyed Estonia, I was there in April and it was chilly. August should be "UV enriched". Aside from Tallinn, I visited Pärnu which is a resort city in the south-west which in the summer will be busy. I'd really like to have gone to Russia but time and visa requirements made it impossible.

Some amusing names in Estonia, chocolate bar called "Corny BIG" and a Honda dealership called Catwees.

Amsterdam - thoroughly recommended, lots of tourists obviously. Other cities in the Netherlands that are worthwhile visiting are Utrecht and Nijmegen. If you can, I'd thoroughly recommend visiting Germany, hiring a car and exploring it that way. The autobahn is a driver's dream (when there's no traffic).

Being able to drink in public in Germany was pretty rad too.

If you're going to hire a Porsche or similar, be sure to be in the one of the main centres (e.g. Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt) as smaller cities off the beaten path (like Essen, where I was) don't really offer anything too exciting. That said, the 2016 VW Golf VII GTD that I drove from Essen to Nuremberg via Cologne on the A3 did not disappoint.

Plan for traffic - I was heading out of the city but just past Düsseldorf, I saw the traffic coming in. Literally kilometres of trucks one behind the other at a complete standstill. There's a bunch of websites that list advice for driving on autobahn - I'd recommend reading up on autobahn etiquette.

Forget Switzerland, I lived there. Go to south island NZ and open eyes, same scenes, nicer people and better food.....

Read about autobahn etiquette, and enjoy great fun.

Amsterdam is interesting to. Sex museum, and drug museums are both eye openers

Poland would be another one to look at

Ja I really liked Poland too. Seems the further east one goes in Europe, the beauty of the women increases. Also don't need to worry about availability of a drink in Poland either:

I've been all over Scandinavia - Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Russia etc. Also been to most places in Europe whilst living just outer London for a few years.

Send us a PM if you have anything in particular you want to know.

    You will have withdrawal issues.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
