Along similar lines, went for a dirt bike ride in Woodhill (the proper riding section) and saw 3 deer, all would have been easy shots.

Couple of years ago up the Wairau and a mob of 52 (I counted them on the cell phone photo) Canadian Geese flew up the valley. I cupped my hands and called them in with just my voice. They came well within shotgun range, ... and I was out looking for deer and pigs with the 308.

Have had chamois hanging around pretty close a few times when I've been up the hills tramping and climbing, never so easy to find when I have a rifle with me!

Coming back thru, I managed to get a wobbly.
48 ton projectile, propelled by 500 hp at 90 kmh made a mess of it. Not much of an entry hole but huge traumatic damage polverizing all vital organs resulting in instant death. There is no substitute for size.
Now to wash all the blood and guts off trailer

Dropping down the last 300m of the Umukarikari Track and walking into a bunch of 3 Sika sitting ON the track. Hunters and deer came eyeball to eyeball. Were armed but mags had been removed for the car-park arrival. Magazines went in and rifles were made ready just in time too see all 3 white rear ends disappearing.
