Tidying garage. Anyone know what is this?

Got this thingame with somw other stuff, never worked out what it is for, so I access the combined wisdom of jokers on the off topic forum.

Slots are increasing width along the "blade". No writing on it.

Handle has manufacturer I. SORBY. SHEFFIELD

Original owner stamped his name on handle too H.J.CLARE just in case a relative. Got the tool in Dunedin some 6+ years ago.

Must be for sheets then, the wire gauges usually also have holes in them. Weird there's no numbers or letters next to the slots.

Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.
