I would look at installing VLC and playing the video via that. Often windows media player, which I assume you are using, does not have all the required backend software to run all the video formats. VLC will allow you to play pretty much anything out there.

VLC is good. Otherwise, Google "codecs". I'm not particularly computer-minded, so can't help more, but I had a similar problem a while back and updating codecs whatever they are did the job.

If VLC is playing the movie you will see a road cone symbol on your task bar. You can right click on the movie and select which program to open it with.

Right click on the file you want to play than choose "other application" then choose VLC from the listed options or search for it on your computer. There is usualy an option to select it as the default, but I can't remember exactly where that would be. ;-) Windows Media player is crap, if you have lots of video files then install Plex, which is a media server. Very easy to run and then any computer/tablet and some smart tv's will be able to find and play any media file on your server/laptop.

Have a read of this link and see if that answers your q's. It is old however sounds like a similar issue to yours.
It might also be pc is too slow or network issues therefore try reducing HD quality and see if it works better> audio on videos not sync with video play [Solved] - Audio - Audio

If you can't play it with VLC, you can't play it.

If you have downloaded and installed VLC,you can make it the default by going to settings/apps/default apps/click on what is showing as default then VLC will be on the drop down list, click on it.Do the same for Audio.Applies to Win10.

Other thing to do is clear out temporary files. Don't just use Microsofts disc cleanup, it is useless.

    C:\Windows\Temp

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp
