    Unlock cell phone

Gidday - Have just switched networks and despite me telling her not to, SWMBO got a new phone 10 days ago that's locked to spark.

So whats the go getting it unlocked, there are plenty of "traps" on the interweb who want $45 to do it . . . but if I rock into Vodafone will they do it ?? Who else??

locking phones to networks is fucking criminal.
not just for the fact that it is a financial rip off.
how about the environmental effects of the extra wastage caused when i change networks but none of my drawer full of old phones will work on the new network, so i buy a new one.

i wont pay a cent to un lock one.
tell em to do it for free or you will change networks.

then call them assholes for trying it on in the first place.

    grrr.
    fuckers.

Yeah - thats how I feel but the small print on the Spark website leads me to suspect I might not have enough leverage to get it done for free even with dire threats

Never buy a locked phone. You just encourage them if you do.

If it is locked to Spark then the code to unlock also has to come from Spark. I've unlocked a few once they become free. Just get a cheap phone to use in the meantime. I avoid locked phones.

Buy your phones off Aliexpress and you don't have that problem. And you don't get screwed (as much) on the price of the phone either.

I always by my phones outright, Its probably cheaper in the long run than being stuck on a plan with the monthly costs etc but it does not seem that way at the time.
People get caught by the have the latest phone at only $X per week and never actually add up the cost

I looked at upgrading with 2degrees and may have to soon as well. Their idea is to put the phone on your bill and you pay the price of the phone in instalments on you account. I thought it would be dearer but the instalments add up to the same as the purchase price. If I cancel the plan or move then I am liable for the outstanding value of the phone but that is fair enough as I see it.
