Vale;BSM williams ,it aint half hot mum

sad yesterday to hear ot the passing of windsor davies ,the great UK actor and possibly the most famous sergeant major to grace a TV screen
who can forget the famous utterances
look ere la de dah gunner graham
now luvly boy -dont stand there like a poof ,lets be having you

a fine boodddy of meeen sir tis a fine body..to the co whilst veins bulge eyebrows twitch and devious thoughts of illwill prevail!

and the dear old charwaller introducing to his latest indian special ,only to be drowned out by that immortal strangles scream from a puce faced eyes bulging BSM.
the immortal vidoe of don estelle (lofty gunner sugden doing "whispering grass in fine tenor with who else but the face on backing vocals and facial expressions!)

this is true brit comedy at its best and long may it live
fall out Sgt major -rest easy ,your last parade is done!

    GreensSHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDP!

an intersting wee anecdote came from wndsor davies himself .
apparently when he was in this role he was invited to a formal dinner of all the warrant officers in Uk hosted by the RSM of brit army.
as he said in this company he didnt know what to bloody expect, given their incredibly high standards of professionalism,so was bricking it .
he was amazed that the assembled thought his playing the role was nigh on 100% spot on!

hmm another thought just occured -does lofty(don estelle resemble PENGY by any chance..well the shortarse wheelbase

irts not the mop on top its the shortarsed wheel base. Rushy (whom I believe reached esteemed RF WO status) would have trouble yelling at anything scruffy at 4'6"'on parade cause it may well resmeble a seagull turd on a spit polished boot or something similar, which WOs were attuned to vent their spleens on!

I know two RSM's (one a Kiwi and one Sth African) and see a third guy from round here abit and they are all "cut from the same cloth" as portrayed by Windsor Davies. The funny thing about all three is that even though the RSM scared the shit out of everyone (most officers included) when I served, all of them are the nicest guys in "civies".
