    Wanted: Reputable framer in Auckland

The item I have is quite special to me. It's a map of the world that was created by my mom's first husband in 1965 that chronicles his "OE" which, as one can see was quite extensive:

    Rhodesia
    South Africa
    Canary Islands
    UK
    Ireland
    Norway
    Sweden
    Denmark
    Germany
    Netherlands
    Belgium
    Luxembourg
    Austria
    Yugoslavia
    Bulgaria
    Turkey
    Iran
    Pakistan
    India
    Bangladesh
    Burma
    Thailand
    Malaysia
    Indonesia
    Australia

He made this entirely by himself and as one can see, he was a talented and meticulous man. His talents were not restricted to the arts, Jeff was also a badged member of the Rhodesian SAS. Sadly, he was KIA on operations 1972 in northern Rhodesia two days before his 30th birthday.

I'm after someone who is experienced in framing unique and sentimental artifacts. Not only must it look good but it should also be framed in such a manner that the subject material is preserved from moisture, mould etc.

    Cheers

Indeed. I'm half-thinking of (once framed), donating it to the Rhodesia Services Association which is in Tauranga but... also want to keep it.

Cheers Beaker - given his military service I'd say he knew his way around a map.

Google search the businesses that mount medals (there's good ones and not so good ones - look for nzdf accreditation) - they may also do framing, or know who does quality work.

Nice thought, but if we had anything remotely like that in our family, that's where it'd stay.....

Mt Eden Framing and Wrightway Studios is where I'd start, they both advertise regularly on the back page of section 1 of the NZ Herald, next to the daily crossword....Google for their details.

Make sure they put a " museum" glass in the frame to stop UV etc, expensive but no fading or detoriation from sun/ light

I worked with two young Rhodesians 35+ years ago, both of them had spent time in the Rhodesian Army, think it was compulsory back then too spend a few years in the service. They were good tough bastards and man could they tell some stories of there time in the army. We worked together for a few years offshore on a 2 month on 1 month off schedule, stuff knows but one of them latched on to a young Pommy Sheila that turned out to be the Gilby's Gin Heiress, after a while he was flying back to the UK on his time off.

Back then having a Rhodesian passport was a pain in the arse, not many Countries would let them in. In the end they had to ditch it and get UK passports.
