    Warning building franchise suspect

Sorry can't name and shame due to getting my arse sued . But be warned that a certain nz wide house builder is on stop credit and contractors are not getting paid . If you are thinking of sighing up or know of any one about to sign up for a new build , do some searching . If they have been on media recently be very cautious .

These guys? Stonewood Homes Hamilton owes creditors nearly $1.5 million | Stuff.co.nz. Blenheim franchise went into liquidation in September. Hamilton franchise last week.

I would be picking Stonewood also but there are so many out there that only trade to collect deposits then go into liquidation so it could be any one of them.

It's endemic in the building trade, at its worst when the industry is flush with work! I could write an in depth post but have a tender closing so need to get back to it

The old building houses business, I believe its got worse since the new rules have cut out the small builder we a good finish(yeah I know Leaky Houses) and a personal service now gone and the big juggernaut money making machines have taken over, paying peanuts and working the arse of their contract builders. i heard of a company local that is estimating to build over 500 houses this year!! hope i never own one!
It needs a bloody good overhaul again and retentions need to be gone along with trust accounts set up to protect the people investing in a new house, robbing Peter to pay Paul is poor form.

This should fill in some gaps, and I'm picking it's a bigger problem than they are letting on.

That's some seriously good advice, have a house that was made as cheep as possible back in the 80's and renovating to up to our spec was eye opening.

Looking at building a house in The next couple of years and it will be small firms and good stuff

Stonewood homes have always been Arseholes and always will be .The sooner they fold the better . You would need rocks in your head to Build with them . They have ripped builders/tradies off since day one . So can't get Decent tradesmen to work for them . There reputation is atrocious . Good riddens
