Warning to owners of Edge GS 5 safes

I'd be very careful with your keys as replacements are proving to be very difficult to come by if you need a new one cut. Because these are Chikkity China safes, they don't use a common blank. I've spent the past couple of weeks trying to organise a new key to be cut from my spare. Nobody in the key world around Auckland had a suitable blank but finally some turned up yesterday.

Today, key was cut - doesn't work, so the merry-go-round continues.

What did they end up charging for the cut?

$25 - pain in the arse having to go back and forth all the time. Next time I'll just get a combination lock.

No I've not - will continue to see if this crowd can get it sorted as they're more conveniently located in work's proximity. Failing which I will have to try elsewhere...

Thanks for the heads up. Have you tried actual an actual locksmith or just Mr Minit type places? Good luck!

No, a proper locksmith with the necessary accreditation.

She's a talented lady certainly but she's no locksmith.

Pleased to report that after shortening the stem on my replacement key, it works. They threw in an internal safe key replacement free of charge too - sweet!

I've got the same safe any chance you remember where you got the blank key from, looking to getting an extra spare done

Hey Trevs, this is the shop that I used. They had to ask around several other stores to get the blank, where they eventually sourced it from I'm not sure sorry.

Another warning about Edge 5 gun safes

I found on mine that the top Bolt on the door did not go high enough to engage. I informed the shop that I purchased it from about 4 weeks ago and so far no reply.

So if you have one of these safes check the top bolt to see if it goes high enough to engage.
So all I had was 4 of the 5 bolts engaging.
I ended up pulling the back of the door apart and adding a few washers inside to raise the bolt higher.
