    Weekend Achievements

Unsure if there is a similar thread but thought i'd start one for posting about weekend activities and doings

Im just getting into hunting and decided it take everyone's advice and put in some leg work in the canterbury foothills.
Left my rifle at home and took Murphy my vizsla lab x. (haven't shot over him yet did not want to make him gunshy on the off chance)
Was a good wee walk and scanned some good country and practiced some recall with the dog.

1/2 way back to the truck walking along a well used doc track (came across a dozen people on the way down ) Murph starts pointing and making a fuss. I told him 'Ok" and watched him head into the bush.
I began to follow him as he took off looking back at me occasionally , didn't think much of it until i started coming across fresh sign . Out the corner of my eye i saw a brown flash take off further up the hill and looked across to the left to see murph pointing furiously .

Nothing much else came from it but pretty stoked nonetheless considering i haven't done much training with him as im still training myself

Sounds like you need to practice carrying the rifle too.

A great winter day for a shoot at the Ashburton District Rifle Club range.
Early start, 11 am to finish before the sun gets too low.

Light southerly wind of vayring strength.
Another 60 score, my second, at 300 yards.

I wore out a grinder disc trying to smooth out the edge of a bit of steel where it had been cut with a gas cutter and then promptly broke two drill bits trying to make a hole through it. It still has a rough edge and no hole. Rushy is not an engineer so my solution is more time, more discs and more drill bits. How hard can it be?

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone

Spent my weekend changing my gun room round to set up a lathe, fitted two safes to the wall, now need to get inspected, joy of joys. Still can't get my wife's car in the garage!
Hung pictures in the lounge, fitted a new spa pump for my daughter, went shopping, twice, and drank coffee.
    Thank god it's Monday!!
