    What is this woodworking tool?

    Can someone tell me what this is called and what its purpose is?

    Spoke shave.

    Hand tool used to make.... spokes duh. You use it to make round length of timber like spokes, chair spindles etc.

    The one in your picture has a very basic adjustment. You set the mouth aperture for depth of cut. Why it has a folding handle I can't tell you.

    You get different variations with flat base (standard) and also round and concave

    looking at it you could use it to take piece out of weatherboard with it....the right angled/adjustable bit would "hold "it in place allowing a set cut to be taken out.
