    Who is paying?

We are about to be graced by the visit of the past leader of the Empire, But who's paying?

Mr Obama will meet Ms Ardern at Government House in Auckland on Thursday.
Ngāti Whātua will hold the pōwhiri, which will be followed by an informal one-on-one meeting between Ms Ardern and Mr Obama.
Later that night, he will speak at an invite-only event organised by the New Zealand United States Council with 800 attendees including members from the business community, Māori community, and young leaders.
The total cost of Mr Obama's trip remains confidential but his speaking fee in the US is just over $NZ500,000.
The chair of the NZ-US Council, Leon Grice, said the official speaking event was designed to celebrate the United States and New Zealand's relationship.
The question and answer style session would cover current issues, leadership and New Zealand's role in the world, Mr Grice said.
"We are embracing diversity and inclusion and new types of leadership coming through," he said.
"His presence validates people in their own journey to becoming leaders from all parts of our society."
Mr Grice said it was particularly exciting to pair Mr Obama up with the Wāhine Toa Network of Māori women leaders.
Mr Obama will stay in the country for three days.

I would want to know. If he's paying for it then that's fine but what's the use in an ex president coming here to speak?

I agree that no one gives a shit. It hasn't got anything to do with politics though. Just a couple of former country leaders playing a game of golf and then one peeling off to a talking engagement to make a few bucks because he is a knowledgeable and popular orator.

I'd be more concerned about Shane Jones & our 3 billon dollars of tax payers money he's throwing around.

and incase any one is confused the nz govt is paying for Obama so that means we who pay taxes are paying for a former us president to play with a former nz prime minster, so we pay two old men to play with each other, go figure

Apparantly he's charging $450k USD to do a speech and Air NZ is paying for him to come over.

No idea how reliable this is, but he could be on the next safety advert for Air NZ.
