How the fuck can that happen? There are some pretty dark places people can go.

Excellent video. Very sobering statistics. Definitely gives you a better perspective on how lucky we are these days.

I feel especially sorry for Poland. They were ruled by Russia for couple of hundred years, then independent in 1918. Then 19 years later get invaded by the Germans, occupied for 5 years, lost 16% of their population and then had to endure Soviet occupation for the next 45 odd years.

I read most of that article @Tussock but one part at the end really stood out to me,

"But as the reaction starts to accelerate, it gets hotter, the liquid expands, the less dense liquid means there are less neutron/atom collisions and it slows back down again"

Liquids don't expand or contract with temperature like gases, pretty sure I learnt that in 3rd form science, which means that the reactor would run away.

I love the idea of the reactor but not sure it will solve mankind's problems, our biggest problem IMHO which everyone is choosing to ignore is the problem of overpopulation, sure the reactor will alleviate the problem to a degree but it will still be overtaken. "Using up all fuel" seems unlikely to me as well, I'm no physicist but I thought it would get to a point where the produce is no longer of any use.

    Great post by the way.

Cheers @Ryan the original post is very sobering, especially the image where the man holding his child was about to be shot.
