    .22 issue

    Hey crew,

Have Owned my .22 for about a year now. It’s a savage b22. Been a real good rifle been well looked after. Easily my favourite rifle to shoot. But of recent Its started having the issue where I’ll shoot a round and it will get stuck hard up against the barrel, like it won’t be able to grab it and throw it out. It’s that stuck I’ll need like a knife to flick it out. Just wondering what will cause this issue I’ve given the barrel a real good clean. Just wondering if anyone would have any ideas.

    Cheers

Check around bolt, chamber etc for crud....or gunsmith. Nothing worse than action jamming.

Give everything a really good clean - not just the barrel. For example, if there's powder build up in the extractor port the extractor will not be able to grab the rim. Get a torch and have a close look, you might be surprised at how much build up there is.

Crap under the extractor preventing the claw from springing in to grab the rim of the case...

Pretty much all as above, with an addition - have you changed ammo recently? I found this with one 22, that a particular type of ammo didn’t seem to work correctly with the extractor, all other types fine. Possibly a slightly thicker rim

good torch and a magnifying glass become ya friend naturally you will take it out of stock before you attack it with WD40 or one of those type products wood work does not like it

Check the point of the extractor claw; it should be sharp. If it is slightly rounded it can cause slipping off the rim. It will only take a couple of strokes with a good needle file to put the edge back, taking care to maintain the original angles.

What ammo are you using? I had a batch of cci subs and they had excess wax or whatever it was on the projectiles, caused them to jam in the chamber

Pull the action from the stock , and douse it in either brake cleaner or carb cleaner , then blow out with compressed air.

Do this a couple of times , then lightly oil any areas that need lube , reassemble and test , preferably with dummy rounds.

Do the fired cases have a lot of carbon on the case mouth?

Is it getting more frequent or just started doing it and doing it at the same frequency.

i changed ammo awhile ago, changed to a sub sonic type round bit more oily. but probaly put like 100+ shots through with that ammo, without any issues then bam started doing this. ill have a look at that extractor tho.

If the cases are hard to remove, as in need digging it with a knife rather than flick out with your fingers nail then I'd guess not the extractor.

You could have a carbon ring that's formed in front of the chamber. Especially if it was initially fine and now it's started having issues.

Cleaning of the breach face, extractor groove and chamber is a good place to start.
