    3 gun style shooting comp

    Hello,

I'm new to competitive shooting but have always been interested in giving it a go, is there any thing like the 3 gun shoots that I have seen on you tube, but don't require a pistol endorsement? Do they do a 2 gun?

Also do you need a e-cat to do 3 gun or can you just use a standard a cat style rifle ?

Is there any other common competing held around auckland or north, I am in whangarei and most of the competing I have heard of or seen are more like f class bench shooting or ftr long range stuff, just trying to find somthing that might be a bit more lively.

I have looked at ipsc shooting but the drama that goes with getting the pistol endorsment sorted has put me off for now, I intend to get into it one day.

    Thanks all.

There is no real drama getting a B category or E category FAL. Join a club, do your 12 shoots and get your B and apply for your E at the same time. There is no reason why you cannot shoot multi gun with A category firearms but you will be handicapped by the capacity causing more magazine changes / reloads.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Auckland Shooting Club have a rimfire shoot on tomorrrow. Having 15 round mag Acat semi is fine for that.

Cheers guys I guess I'll have another look at getting my pistol endorsment and take it from there, the high capacity mag thing hadn't occurred to me.

the only drama with getting an endorsed licance is the cost of the safe-and moving the damn thing. But if the cost of the safe stops people then the ammo bill sould have anyway. I knw all the steps seem daunting when you first read them but once you start you realize how easy it is as long as you are able to shoot semi regular

Yea its somthing I have procrastinated about for a while even got the wife convinced it was a good idea a couple of years back, "instead of going away hunting I could compete locally and be here with you and the kids" haha yea right. Rung the local pistol club and talked to the secretary guy and have put my name down to go up for a look this weekend.

The Dargaville pistol club does 3 gun, never been to it myself, just used their range and seen the calendar on the wall.

Will keep that in mind, if I have to get my pistol Iany way I will start with that, and then give ipsc or steel a bit of time before trying 3gun, I just like the idea of more reactive target competion shooting over shooting paper.

if you're joining the Whangarei club, keep an eye out for a crew of miscreants who attend most of Dargaville's 3-gun shoots — they're friendly and generous.
