    7mm PRC issues resolved?

    Afternoon all
I’ve been looking at getting a 7mm PRC, reports on here from early adaptors weren’t the best. Inconsistent factory ammo seemed to be the biggest issue.
How’s everyone getting on with it now, is the factory ammo sorted?
    Any good/bad rifle reviews?
    Thanks

Factory ammo inconsistency and availability is the reason most hand load. Any number of guys on this forum can sort that for you

If you find the rifle of your dreams go for it

Can’t comment on factory ammo as I hand load for mine. Bergara Wilderness carbon, 22in bbl. Running 180 ELDMS at 2980fps in ADG brass with RL26 & sub moa grp. And 168 LRAbs at 3020 fps w RL25 also around 0.7moa if I do my bit correctly. While I can’t comment of factory ammo I can state that ADG is far superior to Hornady. I have yet to find a powder/pill combo that gives decent performance, most 2+ moa ?!
The Bergara is a decent platform but I’ve just changed the trigger out for a Bix’n Andy as the pull weight on factory trigger is set at 2lbs or there abouts. I prefer something around 1.5 in-lbs. The other disappointment is the barrel Cu fouls quite noticeably. So long as I run Boretech Eliminator in cleaning that can be resolved, but if I don’t use Boretech accuracy drops off quite quickly. I’ve lapped bbl with Autosol & expect it will settle down with time.

Cross your fingers re the copper collecting, usually a bad sign but it can calm down with time, often it’s initiated in the chamber to lead area

Yeah, fingers crossed for it to settle down. The Cu fouling (I can see) seems to be in a couple lanz about 1/2 inch back from muzzle. It’s possibly in other places as well but once these 2 spots are cleaned out rifle goes back to shooting sub moa.

Definitely keen to hand load in the future but I can’t justify the cost and time at the moment. Was hoping Hornady would have it sorted by now.

Source brass, powder and bullets first before buying rifle.

Easy to make a 7 Rem Mag outperform the 7 PRC with a correctly chambered and twisted barrel with sufficient mag box.

And there in lies the conundrum.....to get the best out of a rem mag you need a custom barrel with a 1:8 twist, long throated chamber and long magazine.....or just get a PRC that's already got all those things off the shelf.

Brass and bullets are easy to come by, no worse than any other mainstream cartridge, just stay clear of Hornady brass if brass life is important to you.

Shooting factory ammo the Federal premium (175gn ELD-X) is meant to be good and claimed velocity is at least in the ballpark of what's on the box.

I'm currently shooting Norma factory ammo, it too is slow compared to the claimed speed on the box, but I'm only shooting it for the brass.

Ah, the same old argument from 'Hornady Hype'... why the 6.5 CM is 'better' than the 260 and why the 6.5 PRC is 'better' than the SAUM family.

Yep, Hornady can make a decent bullet at cost but can't do brass to save their lives. It's fire are forget. Even then, their bullets don't need the claimed twist rate to stabilise sufficiently...

A 180 ELDM will be stable out of a 1:9.5" 7mm Rem Mag. But the new Rem 700's come chambered with a 1:8" 7mmRM now anyway. Enough mag box and throat to push it out too.

Add PPU or RWS brass and you're flying.
