I think the reality is that the kinds of steel required to take multiple high energy impacts are expensive.

I bought a pair of A4 sized AR500 wear plates from Fletcher Easy Steel a few years ago and they ran me about $99 each.

Best to just go straight to Fletchers and get them to cut what you want. You will pay a bit for it, but unless you know someone who has a whole sheet and is willing to cut a bit for you, or someone is doing a run of plates, you wont be able to get it much cheaper.

Last time I did a run of plates, I had to spend $3500 on plate to get the price down enough.

Also price check the crowd in Barnes St Seaview, think they are called Kiwi Steel?
Last plate I bought was cheaper there than Fletchers by a large margin

    Hey Steven
I wouldn't go buying new steel to make a rig with I would just keep an eye out at scrap metal dealerships or ask your local engineer if there's any scrap laying around. Unless you want something real flash you should be able to source one up pretty cheep. Depending on what calibre riffle your using I wouldn't go any thinner than 10mm steel. Hope that helps Cheers

For you own safety and for those around you, purchase BIS 500 plate. Any steel target that is dimpled due to projectile impacts is a hazard with increased risk of ricochets coming back at the shooter. If you want to see something scary search on YouTube for 50BMG RICOCHET and watch the 700gr round take the shooters ear muffs off his head.

Pm neckshot, he may still have some gongs ready made that will suit your purpose, and his prices are sharper than the usual engineering one off prices.
