    Ashburton opening day

It was the opening day for the season at the Ashburton range today.

Interesting to see electronic scoring in action. It certainly makes for quicker shooting as targets don't have to be lowered and raised between shots.

Below is the first detail from a Savage 223 firing 80grain Amax projectiles with 24 grain of 2208 in new norma cases at 300 yards.
This was the first full detail on the mound for this rifle. Score 49.6 (the first 3 was not counted).

The latest shot is marked in red.

Second weekend at Ashburton, shooting at 500 yards. Warmer and windier than last weekend.
A good result for the first detail, a better result for the second which scored 50.5 .

Only our second weekend at Ashburton so I don't know what constitutes a good crowd.
Lots of shooters, including new shooters, coached juniors and old(er) hands.
Took about 2 hours for everyone to complete their first detail on our target.

A nice day, sunny, 13 degrees, gusty wind from right to left.

Only 4th full detail fired on the rifle, shooter and rifle settling in well.

Same Silver Mountain target system in action in H Bay a few months back.

You don't need to shoot heavies to get reasonable results at 300- these were Sierra 52gr HPBTs out of a slow twist 700VS. 600yds in wind would be very different though..

The screen must have been zoomed up- the other wasn't a three

That's one danger with electronic targets- you can shoot as fast as you like and if you get into a good patch, you could get the whole lot off in less than 2mins. Not too bad for a heavy barrel .223 but my 6x47L is pretty hard on barrels..

for the people who have been running the electronic targets on a tablet, do you need to download any apps to get it running or does it take care of itself through wifi?

It just runs in a web brower Stuart, you just need to hook the tablet into the wifi connection, open the address in a browser and away you go

you guys down south start the season pretty early, we open this coming saturday
