Thread: Best way to sight in my parker hale 308

Sighting in is simple simple! Boresight it as suggested above, but dont worry about any fancy clamps etc, just cut a "V" in to the end of a cardboard box and sit your rifle across the box, pistol grip fitting tightly in to the "V" Once boresighted fire 1 shot over a good rest at 25 metres, change scope to bring exactly on to centre, fire one more shot, repeat. You should be able to get it right on the button at 25 metres with 2 or 3 shots. With most sporting rifles in 308, this should put you about 3" high at 100. Once you have it centred at 25, move out to 100 and fire a group, 3 or 5 shots, then adjust your scope to bring the centre of the group to where you want it. Most 308's doing approx 2800fps need to be 3" high at 100, for 3" high at 200, zero at 250, 5" low at 300. Using this method I have been lucky enough to only use 7 shots to sight in the last 3 rifles I have scoped - 2 shots at 25, and then a 5 shot group on the button at 100.
