Thats some crazy shit but looks a lot of fun
STRIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome:thumbsup:
DAMN!
So which engineering forum member is going to build one of these? VC I know you have the skills.
Had a quite day in the workshop one day a year or so ago.
This is what happened as a result
Not quite a bowling ball but bloody fun to shoot all the same

300grs of FFg sends a golf ball out of sight
Cheers
Pete
It would take the whole north vs south thing a step further if you could hit one of our gongs from the South Island VC

I've been after a golf ball mortar for a long time. Any engineers on here wanna give me a quote on one?

Canon are a funny item.
My local Arms Officer has told be that if it is a Signal Canon, i.e. makes a loud noise but it doesn't shoot a projectile then it's Not a Firearm.
However if it shoots a projectile then it Is a Firearm.
A plain old firearm with no endorsements required ....... Yes even the bowling ball canon is an ordinary Firearm.
Cheers
Pete
Reckon we should have one then.
This is the type of thing I have always envisaged, i'm 99.9% sure they are not restricted - If someone can point to the legislation that proves me wrong I would be interested.
I wonder if we can do a group buy if everyone is keen?

If that's a golf ball sized hole in there it looks very very short!
It similar to the coehorn mortar design.

Most of these are made using old oxygen bottles.I'd still be worried they would burst. Its probably only 1/4 inch thick.
"punkin chunkin" has a better following. You can grow the pumkins in a mold.http://youtu.be/X6ryYaK5Dg0
Trebochettes (spelling?) are wickedly cool:cool::thumbsup:

Give your Arms Officer a ring tomorrow and tell them your going to make a Mortar
Let us know how you get on.
In the meantime this is my Lobbing Canon ;)

The barrel is machined out of 4140 and the base is 10mm mild steel.

How far can you get it with such a short bore Pete?
VC
The length of the bore is 100mm.
The powder chamber will hold 350grs of FFG
300 grs of FFG will shoot two golf balls around 400 meters.
But the idea with the lobbing canon is to shoot it high and try and land the ball closest to a mark.
At our canon shoot days we aim for 100m, closest to the peg wins.

Cheers.
Pete, that is really awesome. How much did that set you back?
There doesn't seem to be much different in the design between a coehorn mortar and a lobbing cannon.

Only mortars of military type.
Arms (Restricted Weapons and Specially Dangerous Airguns) Order 1984 (SR 1984/122) (as at 11 December 2013) Schedule Weapons declared restricted weapons – New Zealand Legislation
I believe what you have is a miniature cannon.
