    Dark Arts of Magazine Manipulation

Was up at the range over the weekend trialing .22 ammo in my Remington 541T. I have heaps of trouble with the factory 10 round mag. Different brands gave different problems.

Some ammo such as the Eley Sport and Contact wouldn't stay in the mag and would eventually all machine gun out the top (before being clicked into the rifle)
The Norma wouldn't rise up at the front as the bolt was pushed forward so would just jamb into the bolt face

I see T-bird Steve has new mags on Trademe but the present mag doesn't look worn or damaged so don't want to spent money only to have no improvement. Is there anyone who has found a solution to this problem in 541 580 581 or 582 rifles?

    Thanks

If possible, try to dismantle it and check if the spring or follower is around the wrong way..

It's a mag fault of some sort. Won't be an ammo issue across so many brands.

Follower or lips are likely the problem.

I thought this was going to be about hunting magazines photoshopping fences out of 'trophy' photos!

I had the same problem with the factory POS plastic 10 shot Mag in my 541S.

I never did find a cure, except I never had a hint of a problem with the factory 5 shot Mag.

Looks like the feed lips are too wide at the front. If this was happening with a pistol mag my fix would be to squeeze up the front of the lips a little until the body of the shell cant slip out between them. If this mags feed lips are a slip on "over the top of" the polymer mag body type then i dont know how successful you will be with squeezing them together and getting it to stay that way for any length of time, it might require touching up often depnding on how much use it gets.

Chuck it in a vice and give it a go, just a little at a time, too tight and you will get feeding issues as well. And test with a full mag.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. I removed the rear metal clip gave it a squeeze and put it back. That sort of helped, the rounds no longer jump out however now the first three rounds don't feed they hit below the chamber when you get to rounds 6 and lower all is good. I'm a bit scared to keep tweaking it incase I break it. Sheesh these mags are annoying. So if I only have to shoot a 5 round stage its all good. I have ordered another new mag and will see how that feeds. Both my 5 shot mags also don't work well they both have follower jamming issues. For such a lovely little rifle to make a magazine so shit is a real shame.
