FINALLY got my LR come ups

Its taken me years to find the time to suss this out. My 6.5x55 is so small at beyond 1km you can hardly hear or see it strike. Been in a few shoots - done REALLY badly but hopefully things will pick up now. I had to tweek my 'Applied Ballistics' app but I managed to hone it to within 1-0.5 of what I reckon I was hitting.

Anyone else struggling to find their correct ballistic curve for medium to LR?

    Couple of questions for you...

Have you been using G1 or G7 BC ?

What projectile and what BC value ?

Have you confirmed your scope clicks by shooting a tall target test ?

Shooting to check click values is a pointless and wasteful excercise. Don't do it.

You should definitely check your click values, just do it properly.

At longer ranges with a fairly wind affected chambering I also have found it difficult to be sure bc and velocity are on.
They are, you just need near windless conditions to prove it to yourself.

    Useful post.....

Care to share, or are you just leaving it there ?

I use tall target for 2 things. One to check cant / scope level. Two to see the real value of clicks - contrary to popular belief most scope manufacturers don't have the tolerances their marketing department would have you believe.

If you're interested in doing some reading : Applied Ballistics by Brian Litz, chapter 9

Make up a target with 1" grid lines, ideally 20" total but 10" is the minimum. Clamp the rifle with the cross hairs precisely on the top mark. Wind 10 MOA into your scope and see how far the cross hairs have actually moved. 10 MOA equals 10.47 inches at 100 yds. 20 MOAwill be nearly 21 inches at 100 yds.

I have done it, can be hard to get the rifle clamped down well and on the target at 100 yds.

I just go the the pointless and wasteful exercise of firing 2 shots...

Very easy to measure edge of hole to edge of hole, but hey, that's just me...

Hmm we will leave you with that one
You do realise it takes no shots and a spirt level two make sure you have no scope cant?
