First trip to the range with 2nd hand rem

First trip to the range with the mates and a 2nd hand Rem700P in .308, quite surprised.

ADI F4 ball, 1.5" group. Bah - not impressed faces all around and a couple of 'should have brought a Tikka's' thrown in.

Went to the Federal Gold Medal Match loading, 5 rounds in .7" at 100m, and 4 of that in .4". 5 rounds rapid into a smidge under 1"...

Hah take that doubters. For a basically factory spec rifle, no bedding job other than the usual ali bedding block (only other work is I think, a lightened trigger, a muzzle recrown due to a dent on arrival and me fitting the scope) its a cracker...

Bet the man who owns it is grinning (not present at the shoot so I now get to find the crappiest target shot on the day and string him along).

Nothing wrong with a Remmington. I really like the action on my 308 and it shoots well

I've owned more Remington 700's than any other type. They can be made to shoot very accurately and they have more aftermarket parts available than any other action.

The Federal gold match seems a good benchmark for seeing a Remington's accuracy., just hate the price. I've had the opposite at the range, people with Tikkas asking what the hell rifle is that? To be fair though I had my R5 bedded by Dean Maisey and drop a Jewel trigger in, so not same $$ either.Although some will say with the alloy bedding block bedding not necessary I believe it brings the groups in more consistent so you don't get the odd "flyer" taking a 5 shot group from .3 out to .8/1" or something, with factory ammo.
And don't get me wrong, I do like Tikkas and going to buy another one soon.
