Gauge of interest from the community for Tactical Shooting comps

Hi there fellow shooters

I am looking interest in doing competition shooting involving the use of semi automatic rifles in combination with pistols in an active shooter competition setting. Basically it will be similar to IPSC where the shooter will be moving point to point engaging targets under stress.

I am currently pitching this with my club (as I would like to run a monthly comp and have had a dozen or so guys express interest) so will know at our next committee meeting (pretty sure it will get the full sign off), What I am hoping to achieve is being able to open this up to all shooters from around the country to come and attend as they can fit it in. Ultimately I want to see tactical style shooting become a fully fledged and active sport, so if your interested please let me know.

Here is a small taste from my proposal document. I am calling this RAPSC (Rifle and Pistol Shooting Comp) pronounced "RAP SIC". I have deliberately removed the word Tactical from the document so as not to raise any undue criticism or negative response.

RAPSC Shooting Information
RAPSC is a combination of Semi Automatic and Pistol shooting designed to give the shooter a more active competition to test their full range of skills. Participants will be required to shoot from a number of different shooting positions, with their rifle and pistol from (but not limited to):
• Standing
• Moving Advance
• Kneeling
• Crouching
• Prone or Urban prone
• Left and right target acquisition on the move
• Static targets
• Active targets
Participants will be required to show a high level of discipline and weapons handling to be able to complete all stages in the allotted time. This will involve a number of magazine changes during a stage which could mean using precious time.
Above all RAPSC is for participants to be active and enjoy their shooting and although we are all highly competitive it is still social in nature.

It's not really my scene, but I think any form of shooting involving pistols its going to be hard to get a mainstream following as I don't think its worth the hassle of owning them for most people.

Thanks LR, not all event's will involve pistols as we currently going through our B endorsement at the moment. At the club i belong to most have pistol but theres a small percentage that dont (like me at the moment)

Am happy to do it with just the Rifles as well

I would compete in this. Don't have a B cat but have suitable rifles. Me and some mates actually do something similar, but we just call it run n gun. You pretty much need a Tac vest, dump pouch and a bunch of different mags to shoot it. We also incorporate rimfires and shot guns. I'm down, as long as there aren't any silly dress codes to keep the PC brigade happy.

Is it not 3 gun minus a gun?? (ie 2 gun :D)

IPSC rifle?

Multigun type thing?

Hard part is finding a suitable range.

Sounds interesting for sure.

Hey Beavis, no there will not be any silly dress codes, tac vests etc are all ok with me. The only exception to that is No military fatigues everything else is fair game


@@ Spanners - hahah technically yes or one gun if you dont have or use a pistol :)

@@ Gimp - Range is not an issue, the club I belong too are quite forward thinking chappies. I am finishing off my proposal to the club to present at our next club meeting

It's just IPSC rifle, right? That's already a thing.

So is it basically going to be like Canadian Service Rifle - CQB?

It sounds a lot like Service Rifle competition.

Not really my thing, but if anyone wants to set up a practical rifle competition i'd be keen.

"Take Five" is also a similar comp.

Why not military fatigue ?

2 6, why don't you just joint the territorials and shoot for free???? Hell, they will even pay you to wear cam!!!!:thumbsup:

mainly cause I did my time in the green machine before I headed off overseas :)

Thanks for the comments guys, yes its like 3 gun/multi gun etc but trying to do something that gets others doing it as well as I hear lots of people saying they want to do something but nothing seems to get off the ground on a regular basis..

Fatigues - mainly because I spent time in them already :) its just a rule thats at our club (not set by me but had been around for many years at this particular club)

Speaking from experience,make sure that the format conforms with the range template. I tried similar concept with my club,most members wanted it for the clubs growth,didn't fit the template so idea died. Sad but it wasn't worth risking the range being closed.

Thats good advice and is exactly what we are doing. Our range allows us a bit of scope to do things like this. We are giving it a trial run on sunday to see how well it goes and if it is what people want as well, from there we will open it up to others
