Where can I get good banded ear plugs in NZ?
My tinnitus is getting worse even with suppressors on my rifles and im always losing bloody ear plugs or not having time to put them in.
Does anyone know where in NZ or online I can get good class five hearing protection - preferably those banded ear plugs that just sit around your neck?

Mitre 10 stock 3m ones which are 28dB, I think that's class 5.

I can't for the life of me see the appeal of having a band hanging round or under your neck. That's the main reason guys go for plugs over muffs, ie, to get rid of the band.
If you've had retention probs with std plugs, it could be you have very tapered or tortuous canals. What sorts have you tried- closed cell foam? multi-flange??
You could well have a look at some custom moulded ones by the sound of it. Just be careful who you get to do it.
BTW, you won't be able to find Grade 5 plugs. At best, they're usually Grade 3, not because they're inherently inferior to muffs but rather that a high proportion of users can't be relied upon to insert them correctly and they allow for this in the official grading.
Band so they're around my neck so I can chuck em on easy in a second but don't want to wander along hunting with big ear muffs sitting on my head. Also hard to hear what's going on if you have plugs in The whole time. So a banded set would be perfect. For cruising around shooting peacocks and rabbits and goats and deer and whatever else. Firing quite a few shots but still wanting to be able to chuck the plugs in easy. Don't have problems with plugs coming out.

Yeah, I can wear my banded plugs all day around my neck and forget they're there. Then it's two seconds to put them in. Best thing I ever bought.
I now see your logic but I don't know if they'd be much faster to deploy than mutli-flange plugs hanging round your neck.
I'm probably spoilt having a variety of custom in-the-ear electronic plugs where you can always hear what's happening while still being protected.
I find these far superior to ear muffs or plugs. light weight, not hot, can leave em on over your hat all day. Easy to put on and off.

The other type of electronic ear protection worth looking at is this:
Razor X & Razor XV
but havnt been able to find any site in the states that will ship to NZ as they contain lithium batteries
As someone who daily deals with fixing hearing aids, I'd have serious reservations about the long-term reliability of the Razors, in particular the leads to the receivers failing. The electronics are probably fine.
I had custom fitted ones made by Triton Hearing. Best move ever, cannot hear a thing with them in.

See my reply to your other thread. Leedsafe here in Chch is about half that and does grade 4 nd 5 earplugs. They specialise in PPE for the construction indusytry here and have done for a long time. Most are in packs of 200 or 500. Some are loose, others in wee bags of 1 pair each....Quote:
