    New DARPA self steering bullet

Well new as in Feb 2015. Includes a shot by a novice shooter at the end, bullet tracked and hit the moving target

You'll probably find that information is classified and I think it'll be a fair while before they show the projectile or explain how it works.

EXACTO - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How the ammunition is designed to change direction in mid-air is classified.
I imagine it uses a centripetal weight within the projectile which is moved in order to increase/decrease the rotations of the bullet and cause it to alter direction of travel.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precession

Imagine the bullet is a gyroscope. As you change the distribution of weight, you change the direction of the axis about which the bullet rotates - hence you change the direction in which the bullet travels. This is just speculation, I have no idea how this actually works. But it makes sense to me.
What is really impressive is that they fit all the sensors into such a small space, along with the ability to transmit and receive data from a weapon.

This is far from the "fire and forget" technology found in things like Javelin AT missiles. But I think they're constrained in terms of space in the projectile.
