New Gong
My wife got a gong made up for my birthday by a friend who has all the gear and skills to make it. It was delivered yesterday ( bit early for me birthday) so we took to Beeman's and did a test run today.
The steel plates we were unsure if they were Biz or AR 500 and it soon became apparent that it wasn't as we put some pretty good craters in the plates at 500 yards.
Beeman with his Sako 260 Rem put three shot very close to the center. I tried my 7mm Mag , 300 Win Mag, and 270 Win with pleasing results. My 270 doesn't have a dial up scope so I had to estimate the bullet drop which was 30 inches at that range with the ELD-X 145 gr load. I fired three shots and put them in a line along the bottom of the orange bull. Mrs Mooseman hit the gong first shot with the 7mm Mag and then with her brothers 260 Rem. First time she has shot at 500yards she was more than happy with her results.
Very happy with the gong as it's collapsible and easy to transport and quick to assemble once on site.Attachment 74817Attachment 74818Attachment 74819
Well the 300 Win Mag seen below the three 270 shots in a line has made quite a large crater so I will definitely need to get some Biz or AR 500 otherwise a couple more hits in or close to those dents will go right on through.
Cool afternoon trying the gong out. Beeman knows a guy who has access to a 1000yard range so hopefully we will have a go at some longer ranges soon.
