About LinkBacksSo a mate of mine here in Taranaki has volunteered his property to host a medium to long range steel shoot on. I am going to go and have a look at it in the next day or two. I will look at running a medium to long range (300m - 750m) steel gong shoot there either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in March 2013. Entry will be open to anyone. Calibers used will have to be approved by me but i think anything up to and including .338 will be fine.
Given Taranaki is a bit out of most peoples way. Do you think i'd be better off just running a "have a go" day or just run an actual competition?

i'd say a have a go/semi formal comp. keep it simple.

If I have my new toy by then I would be interested. Depending upon the actual dates I could roll straight of the back of that and into the roar.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded

Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Hmmm... suppose i could run it with a few gongs out just to have a go at in the morning then a few to score in the afternoon.

I'll have a look at the property one evening next week after work. From there i'll confirm the date and then the shoot details.
Expect at this stage i'll run a 20 shot competition to start with and then open it up to people just wanting a "practice". That will let spectators and those not wanting to compete turn up and watch a few people first. Don't know that i'll have a chrony or a lap top (or something along those lines) there for other people.

I'll be looking over the property and talking with the owner at the field shoot out that way on Saturday / Sunday. He is full time sorting hay at the moment.

i could be keen. I hope my slugey will shoot that far. Ive never done long range before my longest so far would be 250 meters.
