    picatinny rail selection

Is there any reason to spend more on a rail brand wise? Out of Egw, nightforce, and DPT is there any point spending more?

Not really, unless you are a gear hog or are likely to put it to exceptionally hard use ( hard recoiling rifle with a heavy scope) some brands will have more options for moa offset, colour and length of rail. I am running a bunch of EGW with no problems at all.

I buy EGW rails from the factory. Buy them two at a time to spread the freight cost. A lot cheaper than local prices.

@Tim Dicko the 260 Rem is my brothers rifle he is running a rail from Gun City nothing special and it is very short. It is 20moa but he needs to go to 40moa. I have also purchased all my rails from EGW in the USA you just need someone to post them here for you. You Shop wont send them and EGW charges too much for the shipping.

If you have a couple of rifles to put a rail on the get two, or team up with someone to spread the freight. Just. Do a search for egw gun parts and you'll find the site. Even ordering 1 with factory freight is cheaper than local and you get more flavours too. No one seems to carry the ones I wanted anyway.

    Hi,
If you want an egw rail HD( 7075 alloy) for a Remington or a tikka you are looking at US$70 a piece plus probably Us$40 US dollar of shipping for two of them. So that is a total of us$180 or us$90 a rail, equal nz$124 at today s exchange rates.

The dpt picatinny rail for tikka t3 or Remington from the same alloy are $105 for then 0 moa and $115 for the 20 moa.
So that you are aware.and they can be shipped to you within 2 days !

Of course , egw has a bigger selection of very specific rails that might suit more your needs.

In general you get what you pay for. But not always

I've got a Sun Optics 15MOA rail on my rifle, it cost $28 from memory from my local gun store...and it's great. A rail is a rail, can't see it doing anything different compared to a Nightforce?

Now rings, these are a slightly different story as you're asking a lot out of rings to clamp a scope securely to a high recoil rifle. So my advice is save some money on the rail and put that saving into good rings.

Now just to contradict myself one more time...I also used Sun Optics rings $18??? as that's all the shop had in the right size the day I was there...and for what it's worth, about 250 shots later on a 7mmwsm nothing has moved, everything is as it should be. So I guess provided the principle design of the rings are good and you lap them I can't see any issues.

I disagree with that saying : a rail is rail.
I have seen bent rails in pretty much all directions. And when you see the finish and sturdiness of a Near manufacturing rail, compared to some Chinese stuff, a rail is not a rail.
