Random airsoft question

A guy at my local club picked up airsoft to get his semi-fix (I didn't ask if it was satisfying) and this type of shooting-sport has intrigued me further. Has anyone else gone down that road and how has it worked out for you?

theres clubs similar to paintball clubs that are the go to for this type of hobby.

@gonetropo - thanks mate, I figured it was similar to paintball clubs. I used to live close to an airsoft club up in the big smoke but never made it in there as I never quite enjoyed shooting my mates and not seeing the splatter. Visual appreciation is always part of the enjoyment equation.

@mimms2 - I feel you and have the exact thoughts but I am also very open-minded to any possibilities. I think what you mentioned earlier regarding Airsoft IPSC/Speedsteel is heavily practiced in Taiwan and Japan due to their gun-laws. There was an episode when T.Rex Arms founder took a Jap airsoft champion along for some realistic shooting.

Either way, I look forward to hearing from others and their airsoft experiences as to me - its merely another evolution of the bb gun.

I have a couple does at paintball and it is a real buzz. Hard out workout though....
I think airsorf is more accurate and better range etc, so more realistic.
If I had the time, I might join and get into it properly.

Fun times, the adrenalin really gets going at times.

I have used airsoft in the training of new pistol shooters when range access is limited. Buy a duplicate handgun to your real steel handgun and practice, practice, practice at home.
Builds good habits, helps you identify and deal to bad habits.

I designed and had manufactured, scaled IPSC falling target plates, laser cut from 1.5mm galv sheet, weighted to drop with a airsoft pallet out to about 15m. They are scaled so that at 7m, they represent a standard target at 25m. The falling plate is housed in a base that can be bolted or screwed to any surface. We set them up on pvc tube stands so that you are shooting them at different heights from ground to horizontal. I have about 20 individual bases with interchangeable falling plates, and a couple of speed racks. Makes for very interesting shooting when you set up a course of fire that is mirrored and you shoot man on man with one shooting from the left and one shooting from the right working to a centre stop target like the MGM Ironman competitions in the USA.

I played airsoft on and off for years. Bloody awesome fun. And yeah I was one of “those” guys that got right into the milsim side of things. Used to play in squads of 7-10. Have 7 or so squads running around in the bush trying to meet particular objectives. Was awesome. I’m ex army and it helped me scratch that itch haha. I played smaller team death match type games as well, they were fun too you just got shot way more.
I haven’t played in a few years, but that’s more due to there not being enough of a scene down here. If I was in chch I would play regularly.

I could reliably hit someone at 70m. My longest (measured) shot was 94m with a bolt action, though at that range the BB has lost much of its energy.

Started with Airsoft in a CQB arena with a bunch of ex mil and pmc's. pretty full on on the tactics / movement side of things and good for fitness. 2 hours of running/sprinting with a decent amount of kit. outdoor is a bit slower but can be fun. I preferred cqb because if the level of intensity. I find myself enjoying real steel more and looking at the costs involved for upgrades to a bb AEG or GBB you can get a chunk of ammo or components or even a rifle.

You do get some good laughs out it but it is more about the company you're in at the time as there those that tarnish it for all. But mostly its good fun.

I enjoy both for different reasons, but with all hobbies it can be a money pit.

much preffer paintball either speed or bush. Airsoft tends to appeal to the weekend warrior wannabe special forces lot most of the time.
