rear bags/rests for field use

I recently bought a mini rear bag (bunny ear type) for use in conjunction with my pack while out hunting. The idea seems a good one however the bag design is restricting in its application in the respect that it is very restriced in what heights/angles it can be used at. I saw gimp with a cylinder tye bag which could potentially be used on its end or side thereby maximising applications. What are others using as rear bags? I have found them to be of real benefit for longer shooting and when used in conjunction with the pack as a front rest they are very stable

I take an old strong sock and fill it with whatever near the spot and use that. It has worked well for years.

On a whim I bought a Redtac 1/2 pint bag.

Cost too much for what it is (freight was the killer). Nice and light thought. I think its filled with airsoft pellets. Get the boss to whip one up for you on the sewing machine. I also got the rear bag which is good off a bench (probably would get the pillow too if I did it again).

These bags are really stiff so mould to your stock well and are very stable. Mind you field conditions mean sometimes a rock or other solid thing needs to be wedged under it just to get it right. Often to get elevation you need to crank up a bipod which puts your shoulder about 2" into the deck;) hence the additional rear bag height.

I use one of these dog gone bags, it doesn't weigh very much and very stable

I use a bipod and roll up my day pack, but always looking for a better way...

Its fucking awesome that pillow, Im looking for a supplier of them up her but no one stocks them

Got the local upholstery shop to whip up something like this, filled in with poly beads (I have heaps left if you are looking for some). Really good with 3 different heights plus the taper.

Too heavy for field work but my rear bag for the bench is a bag of Pams canary seed - $2.65

I carry muslei and milk powder premixed in zip lock plastic bags. One of these goes in a sock for a rear bag.

I have the red tac gear half pint and rear bag, mostly use the half pint but it's sometimes a bit low

I fold my gun bag over in half and its usually the perfect size :)

I use my left fist as a rear bag,not perfect im sure but works well for me:thumbsup:

thats a great Idea. But what if you run see an animal after lunchtime?

It would be good to incorperate this incase you have an unintended overnight trip. I find plastic beads rather unappetising
