Lightbulb Ruger M77 Hakeye 270 - Best Ammo?

    Hey all,

Ive just bought a second hand stainless ruger m77 in 270. Shes in mint condition and ive just mounted a vx6 ontop.

Does anyone have any experience with ammo that groups well in these rifles? Id like to commit to a brand of ammo and stock up but wanting to start in the right direction. - I am new to long range shooting/hunting (been hunting with a 3-9 bushnell elite) out to 250m 300m but would like to be able to shoot out to 500m when required.

    Cheers

The Hornady 145 GRN will be first choice if looking to shoot out long. Start there bud. Type of rifle won't matter/ help you out as they are like woman,no two are the same. Try the Hornady, see how it goes and get back in touch if it's not good grouping wise.

I always start with the cheapest ammo to test, because you might get lucky and it shoots perfectly well. Looking squarely at good 'ol PPU here. I use it in my 7x57 when I don't have any hand loads. The one time I owned a win m70 in .270, the PPU shot perfectly adequate groups with that too. When the cheap ammo is creeping up to $3 a piece and the dear stuff is well beyond, start there and hope for the best!

If it doesn't shoot the good old federal bluebox good then theres something wrong with it.

Yes, sadly the Federal blue box has ruined any confidence I might have had in my hand loading ability...I suppose it gives you something to aspire to though
